COMING SOON:
In the midst of widespread backlash against the queer and trans community, it is more important now than ever for us to understand our history, especially around our activism so we can revitalize our movement and rise to meet this historical moment. This is why I am fundraising to research, write, and produce a 24-part series on the history of queer politics in the US, covering everything from the 1870s to the present day highlighting the history of community organizing, boycotts, cultural movements, court cases, and more.
The series will incorporate interviews with queer elders and deeply researched history with a focus on keeping it entertaining. Each episode will also compare the history to the political climate of the present so that we can pull the lessons from these stories.
About me and why I need the funding:
My name is Quinn Bishop, I am a queer trans woman based in New Orleans where I have been running a queer history walking tour since 2019, that has over 600 five-star reviews. I’ve also been organizing a wide variety of social movements since I was nineteen years old. With my recent adventures making content for tiktok, I have learned that I have a knack for video content and I feel uniquely equipped to knock a series like this out of the park.
However, like many people, I’ve had a rough couple of years. While I feel confident that I can pull all this research together, the reality is that time and money are tight these days. I don’t have good camera equipment and barely make rent every month with just my current employment. This project will require hours of research, interviews, writing, recording, and editing, not to mention the costs it takes to make quality videos.
So I am asking for the funding I need to make this project into something incredible that can be used by the queer community as a resource for years to come. To make this happen I am hoping to raise $7,000 to cover the expenses of producing this series as well as provide myself a bit of financial stability as I shift my energy to this project.
I hope you’ll consider donating to spread knowledge of our past so that we can successfully fight for a better future. Let’s remember the sacrifices of our queer ancestors and live up to their legacy together.
